This is a beautiful set of four (4) handmade stoneware bowls with a blue and white speckled glaze design. These pieces were made in Seagrove, North Carolina, by Shelton Pottery in 1987. The largest and medium sized bowls are signed "MS," for Mitchell Shelton, who owned and founded Shelton Pottery, an eighth generation potter from the Cole and King pottery families. He is the son of Virginia Shelton, who was one of the main potters for the original J.B. Cole pottery shop. The smaller two identically sized bowls are made and signed "RA," by Robin Auman, Virginia Shelton's daughter, who likewise worked for both J.B. Cole pottery and Shelton as well.
The small bowls signed "RA" measure 5 inches in diameter and 2 inches in height.
The medium bowl signed "MS" measures 6.5 inches in diameter and 2.5 inches in height.
The largest bowl signed "MS 1987" measures 7.25 inches in diameter and 3.5 inches in height.
